TUBERS
Please keep your climate in mind when you place your order. Tubers don't ship well in frozen weather. If you're ordering in the fall, make sure you're prepared to store your tubers through the winter. It takes a bit of experience to properly store tubers so they don't dry out or rot.
Mother Hen Farms is not responsible for tubers that do not survive storage after they have left our care. Tubers want to grow! Different varieties grow different tubers. They also grow differently in different soils and climates. Little tubers will grow. Skinny tubers will grow. Huge tubers will grow. Soft or wrinkled tubers will grow. Tubers grown as "pot tubers" can look ugly or gnarly. They will grow. If you want to grow dahlia flowers, you're in the right place. If you're looking for runway ready tubers, I recommend you look elsewhere. Your tubers will be awake with eyes or sprouts upon delivery! One more note, occasionally I will cut a large sprout before shipping if I don't think it'll survive the trip in a box.
CULTIVAR GUARANTEE
This year, I am unable guarantee my orders to be true to the cultivar you purchased. I was unable to get out to my dahlias to confirm blooms/varieties with their tags. I had family help with The Great Tuber Dig without my supervision because I was under restrictions and healing from two surgeries. Mistakes happen. That said, out of the varieties I was able to confirm, my rate of mislabeled dahlias was quite low. Please reach out to me if you have concerns with your dahlias or if they didn't grow true to label. I will do whatever I can to keep a happy customer.
THE PERFECT CUSTOMER
Dahlias bring people together. A little kindness goes a long way. My favorite repeat customers continue to come back because even if there are mistakes, I always make good on a situation. They are understanding and appreciate that we're all human. If you have a very specific need and absolute precision is most important to you, you are not my ideal customer. As a super busy mom of a medically complex child, it's important to me that my customers know and understand that sometimes crap happens and schedules have to pivot. To all my past customers and dahlia friends, thank you for your support and kindness over the years! It's amazing how many friendships are made through dahlias.
AS YOUR GROWER
I will check the weather between me and you to make sure I'm not sending your tubers into a blizzard. We both want your tubers to arrive safely. If you are new to dahlias and would like to know more about certain varieties or you would like recommendations, I am happy to chat on the phone to help you decide what you need.
If you need a certain shipping date or you are going on a trip and won't be home to accept your package, please message me so we can make sure your tubers don't get abandoned at your doorstep.
UPON RECEIPT OF YOUR ORDER
Plan to open your shipment immediately, and notify me within 24 hours of receipt if there are any issues. All tubers are shipped with visible eyes or sprouts.
